SNOOP: Small Space Rental Remake
This week we get a peek inside Gerijo Matoyka’s jewel-box historic rental apartment, a reminder that small rentals can rock some style as well as any purchased home. Gerijo is a fashion designer turned interior designer. Principal of TykaconCepts Interior Design + Products (https://tykaconcepts.com/) she's a master repurposer, refinisher, and DIYer, and has an eye for the mid-century "fabulous find." Watch the video for the full story.
In the living room, Gerijo reupholstered vintage chairs, found a cocktail table from a Westchester auction house and vintage end tables and a lamp from a Hudson Valley tag sale, and sourced artwork from Marshalls for $50 which she twisted to resemble a Brutalist style sculpture! The dining room hosts vintage a table and chairs, a chandelier from a NYC auction, and black and white paintings she DIY’d. Peel and stick paper is behind the shelves.
Since bang for the buck is the name of the game with a rental, she painted her bathroom wall tile and used more peel and stick wallpaper from Lowe’s on the walls in a bold stripe. And for the floor she used peel and stick flooring to cover ugly bath tile, then grouted between the cracks to make it look like real tile. Wow.
Her advice when using peel and stick wallpaper: choose it for small nooks or accent walls. On larger walls, it eventually tends to peel instead of stick!
Thank you for the sneak peak and great DIY tips Gerijo!
