Style Profile: Apothecary in the Attic
Natalie Stolzenback, a Southporter whose background is French and Indonesian, works as a Program Specialist at the UN. But she has a unique side-hustle: she’s also the creator and curator behind BucoliqueCT, her “apothecary in tiny batches,” sold online at Etsy. Their charming home in Southport has a lush garden where Natalie grows the herbs, flowers, and plants used in her medicinal products. She needed more space for working and hosting workshops, and their home lacked a guest room and garage. But Natalie and her husband Dan didn’t want to do a costly renovation. They discovered Country Carpenters in Hebron, CT and realized they could erect a stand-alone barn structure that would also meet their aesthetics.
The model lets you specify your features, Natalie explains, “you do the outline and choose the window style and placement and whether or not you want insulation. You can even add a dormer.” They hired a builder to put the pieces together, and they stained the structure by hand. We love how this low-cost solution adds to the home without taking away from its classic charm.
Natalie’s products, with names like “Elderberry and Rosehip Magic Potion” and “Colorado High Plains Healer Balm,” are as simple and soothing as the 400 square foot Scandinavian-style aerie she designed upstairs. Flooded with light from the large windows, Natalie filled the space with items and antiques that have special meaning, as well as local #Connecticut goods, which she loves to hunt for in their spare time. Her resources are listed below. We think this barn takes #workfromhome to a whole new level. Thank you so much for this peek into your magical world, Natalie!
