SNOOP: "Garden Grown," Inside Anel Dzafic's Garden

We’re so excited about the launch of Julia and Anel Dzafic’s new cookbook, Garden Grown, we asked for a peek into the backyard where it all began!

When he is not running his personal training studio, Anel — also known as The Botanical Bosnian — works in his large (but highly organized!) garden. He built the structure himself, which is no small feat because it is about the size of most starter-homes. It houses his chickens — lovingly named “Karen,” “Steve Jobs” and their family — and just about every variety of vegetable, herb and berry. His kids also have their own dedicated section in the garden, choosing to plant flowers this year after growing corn last year. Plus, there’s a small orchard for fruit and wildflowers to host all of the pollinators needed to keep the garden thriving!

Dzafic learned to live off of the land growing up in war-torn Bosnia. His earliest memories are in the garden. Not only is it a source of food until the end of the year but gardening is a grounding experience for him after work. “This is my meditation,” he says. Take the snoop below to be amazed by Dzafic’s green thumb and his thoughtfully designed, highly functional garden.

Here are some more pics of the verdant garden to make you smile:
